the acoustic aspects of voice in reflux-induced laryngitis and vocal fold polyp
Authors
abstract
introduction: bnign laryngeal lesions are relatively commonly occurring problems which are often noted after changes in voice. since they are non-invasive and yield objective easy-to-collect data, acoustic laboratory methods are used along with perceptual assessments for evaluation of voice. studying acoustic characteristics is useful in diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders. with regard to the fact that polyps and reflux laryngitis result in similar auditory features of voice, this study aimed to find acoustic differences between these two conditions. materials and methods: in a cross-sectional non-interventional retrospective study, a number of patients (both males and females) with vocal fold polyps and reflux laryngitis with the age range of 74 -20years were studied. to determine voice characteristics of all participants, the vowel / æ / was analyzed using the software praat. results : the amounts of mean fundamental frequency(mf 0 ), fundamental frequency range (rf 0 ) and shimmer were higher in males with polyps than those with reflux laryngitis. rf 0 , shimmer and hnr values were significantly different in both groups. comparison of mf 0 and jitter variables of males with polyp and with reflux laryngitis with all voice characteristics of females in both groups showed no significant difference. conclusion: shimmer, rf 0 and hnr values in men with polyp were different from these values in those patients with reflux laryngitis and these features are more affected in polyps than in reflux laryngitis. so these characteristics can be considered as the differential features (differentially diagnostic) in these two groups of patients.

The Effects of Size and Type of Vocal Fold Polyp on Some Acoustic Voice Parameters
Background: Vocal abuse and misuse would result in vocal fold polyp. Certain features define the extent of vocal folds polyp effects on voice acoustic parameters. The present study aimed to define the effects of polyp size on acoustic voice parameters, and compare these parameters in hemorrhagic and non-hemorrhagic polyps. Methods: In the present retrospective study, 28 individuals with hemorrha...
full textRole of the Internal Superior Laryngeal Nerve in the Motor Responses of Vocal Cords and the Related Voice Acoustic Changes
Background: Repeated efforts by researchers to impose voice changes by laryngeal surface electrical stimulation (SES) have come to no avail. This present pre-experimental study employed a novel method for SES application so as to evoke the motor potential of the internal superior laryngeal nerve (ISLN) and create voice changes. Methods: Thirty-two normal individuals (22 females and 10 males) par...
full textIdiopathic ulcerative laryngitis causing midmembranous vocal fold granuloma.
Idiopathic ulcerative laryngitis (IUL) is characterized by bilateral midmembranous vocal fold ulceration, which follows upper respiratory infection with cough. In contrast, granuloma of the membranous vocal fold can occur rarely following microlaryngoscopy, presumably secondary to surgical violation of deep tissue planes. We report a novel case of noniatrogenic membranous vocal fold granulation...

full textVocal fold vibration and voice quality.
There have been various methods proposed for diagnosing laryngeal pathology by analyzing the pathological voice. However, even if two diagnoses are the same, the voice quality might not be the same. In other words, it is difficult to diagnose laryngeal pathology only by acoustic parameters. In this study, we analyze the vibration patterns seen in various pathological cases to explain pathologic...
